Chronicle of Sorrows (2)

March 27, 2010 at 6:43 pm

Thought I'd say a few more words about the Chronicle of Sorrows game we're running right now.  (The original post is here.)

First off, the prizes!  The first person to successfully access the contents of John Stephenson's desk will win a signed ARC (advanced review copy) of Bitter Seeds.  (That's right, play along and maybe you can make a few bucks on eBay.  Not a lot, though.  I'm not exactly Stephen King.)  Four runners-up will be eligible for other goodies.  The usual caveat applies: beta testers and people who have a key to my house aren't eligible for the prizes.  Sorry, guys.

The game starts here.  More suggestions below the cut.

As I said in my earlier post, Chronicle of Sorrows is part short story, part easter egg hunt through this website.  So in order to play you'll have to make sure that your flash version enables you to use all of the features of this site.  (If you're having technical trouble, please let me know.  You can email me at ian(AT), or post in the comments below, or use the contact form.  Even if you're not interested in the game and couldn't care less about the prizes, I'd still appreciate a note if you encounter a problem with the website.)

Some clues are more difficult than others.  We tried to design things so that, in a general sense, later stages of the game become progressively more difficult.  But we also tried to provide multiple paths, and did our best to reduce bottlenecks.

(If you get stuck, there are resources to help you... somewhere.  And if you get really stuck, send me a note.  I might be persuaded to drop a hint here or there.)

How about if I return the key? *Then* am I eligible?!

You know, I'd forgotten about that. Maybe it was my subconscious reminding me to get the key back. It wasn't a jab at you, I swear. I think you earned a signed copy of the book by virtue of all the help you've given me. (But sure, the key would be great. Then I can make somebody else ineligible.)
