My Pony, It Knows One Trick

November 19, 2010 at 2:12 pm

My friend Adrienne Crezo, who edits the Best Damn Creative Writing Blog, and who also raises bonsai giraffes in her spare time, recently invited me to write a guest post for her blog.

Hey, we all make mistakes, right?  She had a good run going, with some terrific posts from a string of interesting people.  I made certain that came to a screeching halt.  Instead of being interesting or funny or thoughtful, I decided to lay bare the quivering ball of neurosis that lurks deep in the soul of many writers.

You can read my post here

And speaking of not believing the internet exists...

...my home internet access is down for potentially a long time.  So for now I'm reduced to panhandling for wireless bandwidth from my friends.  Meaning that if you send me a note, or post a blog comment, and don't get a rapid response, it's probably because I haven't had my utility lines re-trenched yet.

I'm still keeping an eye on everything.  Just can't respond as quickly as I'd like.  If you don't hear back from me in a few days, though, feel free to re-send.

LOVE the guest post. And the comparison to a one trick pony. I was wrestling with this VERY SAME self-doubt today with my WIP. It's a new cast of characters... There's a male POV... It's a completely fictional world... Essentially, I have no idea WTF I'm doing. In fact, I don't even know how the heck did I manage to do this before. Anyway, your post made me feel teeny bit better. So thanks for that. :)

Glad to be of service :-) (The bit about the diabetic cat is true, btw. But it didn't happen in my house, thank goodness.)

I read that title in Russian before I even knew you'd mentioned our opulent friend. This is getting too weird, Tregillis. In other news, I love the guest post--the only mistake I make on my blog is posting my own content. (No one reads that crap.) And I really love that you didn't call me insane this time, even if it's still true. If you'll excuse me, I have to go prune the best damn bonsai giraffes ever.

How about I write for your blog and you write for my blog? Because I really suck at keeping my own blog up to date, yet when people ask if I'd like to write a guest post on somebody else's blog... I jump in it. So, just try to keep this place up to date, 'k?

That guest post? I'm raising a hand in solidarity over here. "The difference is that my self-assessment is precise and accurate, while other writers are just insecure about their awesomeness." Yeah, that's right. And it's impossible to be convinced otherwise, no matter how hard the other person tries.(It's pretty comforting to hear that everyone else seems to have the same fears and delusions. *g*)

.(It's pretty comforting to hear that everyone else seems to have the same fears and delusions. *g*) It is comforting. I especially take comfort in this when I'm facing the blank page of a new story. I remind myself that many writers face that incessant fear of being found out as a giant faker. Although, in my case, I also spend a lot of time wondering why everybody else is SO AWESOME while I'm just me. Sigh.

How about I write for your blog and you write for my blog? Oh, yeah. That'll go over well. I can see it now -- Guest Post: Random YouTube Videos and Other Crap, by Adrienne Crezo. It'll be a three-page discussion about why vampires can't live in space.

That would be way more interesting than anything happening on my blog right now anyway. It would be a huge improvement! So, I'll take your response as a yes, and assume from now on that you've got my blog covered. Thx. Also, a minor point, but vampires can totally live in space!!1!!eleventy-one!. This can be proved using science.
