My publisher, Tor, is embarking on a new ebook venture. A new free ebook venture. And it appears to be just the beginning of something bigger. The catch? There isn’t one.
All you have to do is sign up for Tor’s newsletter. That’s it. (And you want to know about all the great stuff coming out from Tor anyway, don’t you?) In return Tor sends you a link to a free ebook every week leading up to the launch of a, um, mysterious new website. According to John Scalzi, the ebooks are not only free but DRM-free, too. And in fact, Scalzi’s novel Old Man’s War will be one of the free books given away, as will Brandon Sanderson’s The Final Empire.
The program ends when the new site launches. As for that, all I know is that the signup page makes mysterious references to orbital attack electromagnets and watching the skies. But I’m not worried. Thanks to my thought screen helmet and an aluminum foil deflector beanie, I scoff at threats of mental enslavement and psychotronic warfare.
But I’m scooping up those free ebooks while I can.
Hi, Ian!
Wow, coolest website EVER! Thanks for linking to my site. Cheers!
Hi, Sarah! Thanks for stopping by. Nice to, er, see you again.
Sorry I won’t be able to hang out with you guys at Blue Heaven this year.
I’m rubbing my hands together in greedy glee as I await the triumphant
debut of The Magic Thief, so that I can say I knew you when…
