Tomorrow (March 7) a rag-tag fugitive fleet of Wild Cards authors will descend upon Page 1 books in Albuquerque to sign copies of the latest Wild Cards release, Busted Flush.
The line-up: George R. R. Martin, Melinda Snodgrass, Carrie Vaughn, Vic Milan, Walton (Bud) Simons, Caroline Spector, John Jos. Miller, and me. (That’s everybody in Busted Flush except S. L. Farrell, who is an awesome guy and who needs to come visit New Mexico more often!)
It’s possible other Wild Carders may show up to hang out with us, including Daniel Abraham, Walter Jon Williams. and Laura Mixon.
And that’s just one of the signings scheduled for tomorrow. Because John Maddox Roberts will be signing copies of his newest SPQR book, Oracle of the Dead. I feel badly for John because so many Wild Cards thugs have horned in on his signing day. If you happen to stop by, pick up an SPQR novel and give him some love. Or, um, buy it and get it signed. Whatever works for you.
Between John’s SPQR books (the newly-released Oracle of the Dead makes number 12 — er, XII — in the series), and Carrie’s Kitty novels (number 6 just hit the shelves, or was it 7?), and Melinda’s Edge of Reason (which is coming out in paperback in June, woohoo!), Wild Cards itself (Busted Flush is number 19), and GRRM’s books, this threatens to become a chaotic orgy of book signing.
I hope that we do another mass signing after Suicide Kings comes out. And, selfishly, I hope it coincides with the release of Bitter Seeds. I know, I know — if wishes were horses, we’d all be eating steak.
I can second the exhortation to buy John Maddox’s book. I _love_ the SPQR book, and he was actually the first author to do mysteries in ancient Rome. Unfortunately he was ahead of the wave, and never got the credit and attention. And his books are way better than the others that have been written.
I hope we do a Suicide Kings signing too. Because your character got the cover on Kings, and it is an awesome cover. I think it’s the best of the three, and they’ve all been great.
Since it looks like The Edge of Ruin and Bitter Seeds are coming out at the same time should we do a joint signing? It’s around a year away, but, hey, it’s never to early to start planning. 🙂
It would be cool if we could do a joint signing next year. That way you can console me when nobody wants a signed copy of Bitter Seeds. Except that you’ll probably be too busy signing Edge of Ruin. 🙂
One of my Clarion classmates — who was also a huge Wild Cards fan, incidentally — had been working on a series of mystery stories based in ancient Rome. I wonder if he’s familiar with John’s work– I’ll have to ask him.
