Last night I watched the new HBO documentary Bobby Fischer Against the World. Riveting stuff. I was glued to my seat.

Recent Annoyances Conveyed as a Series of Open Letters
Dear Wind:
Please stop. Please.
Your persistence was endearing if a little bit maddening. But now there are fires, big fires, and you’re just making the situation worse. People are losing their homes.
Please stop.
Love,
Ian
Something Random While the Laptop Is Still Down
The old laptop is still down with a terminal case of old age.
Also, I almost forgot to update the blog today, and I just hopped out of bed. So here’s something random.
Death by Registry Error
My laptop has been on life support for a while now. I finally got tired of dealing with it, so I lobotomized it this morning as part of the “burn it to the ground and rebuild it” process.
I did back up all my old email (and music, and, of course, writing) before doing this. But I don’t have the energy now to reorganize everything on my much newer netbook. So for the time being my email is spread all over the place, and some of it is possibly lost.
I’ll get to re-integrating when I can. In the meantime, if you’ve sent me a note and I haven’t responded, feel free to re-send.
Free Excerpts from Fort Freak
Fort Freak, the latest and greatest installment of the Wild Cards series, will hit shelves on June 21. I really mean it when I say “latest and greatest”—personally, of the four (so far) new WC volumes published by Tor, I think Fort Freak is the strongest. (And that’s saying something. We worked hard on the others.) The lineup is stellar, and the stories terrific. (Probably because I didn’t even pitch for this book. I wasn’t there to drag down the quality.)
This volume takes place in and around a previously unexplored piece of the WC universe: the NYPD’s Fifth Precinct, square in the heart of Jokertown. (Think Fort Apache, The Bronx with mutants and superpowers.) It’s a great entry to the universe.
But if you’re on the fence about it, you can read the first story in the book for free…
