Well, this is nice. Not quite nice enough to make up for the broken water pipe in my kitchen and the daylong (fruitless) wait for plumbers to arrive. But I’ll take what I can get.
Today’s mail contained a copy of the brand-new The Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of the Year Volume 5, which contains my story, Still Life (A Sexagesimal Fairy Tale).
Hooray!
I suppose it’s a little silly to be so jazzed about something so minor, but I can’t help but be thrilled by this. Kind of exciting to share a table of contents with Gaiman, Watts, Doctorow, Swirsky, McHugh, McDonald, and many other amazingly amazing writers.
And because I’m still waiting for the plumbers to arrive (and optimistically ignoring the fact that it’s 5:30 on a Friday afternoon) here’s a photo of the book sitting on my desk:
Sometimes it’s the little things.
Especially when your kitchen is full of sand.
No, it’s not silly to be jazzed up about being in a YB anthology it’s f%*$#@! great. Congrats and kudos. Now go stand on a hill and shout to the heavans that you’re a damn good writer.
Sorry about the pipes. Events like that do bring us back down to Eath, don’t they?
Thanks, dude, very much.
Yeah, the pipe thing sucks. But at least it keeps things in perspective.
I hope things in St. Louis are much better than they are in my kitchen right now.
