If it weren’t for Tor.com, where this story first appeared, I wouldn’t have known about this.
But thanks to this post, I’ve just learned that “What Doctor Gottlieb Saw” (a standalone piece set in the Milkweed universe of Bitter Seeds) is included in Locus’s list of recommended short fiction reads from 2010.
And, gosh, now that I look at the actual list, I see that Still Life (A Sexagesimal Fairy Tale) is up there, too. Wow!
Unsurprisingly, Dr. G isn’t the only Tor.com story to make the 2010 recommended reading list. Not by a long shot. (I confess to feeling just the tiniest bit delighted to be included in such august company.) To celebrate, Tor.com is making all of the recommended pieces available as a special bundled ebook at various retailers.
Apex has a nice showing on the list, too, but that’s inevitable when they’re publishing people like Theodora Goss and Amal El-Mohtar.
Congrats on “A Sexagesimal Fairy Tale” also.
“slivers of ticks and tatters of tocks” — nice phrase.
Thanks, Steve! I really appreciate it.
That’s my favorite line in the story, too. π
So exciting! Yay! Thanks for sharing; I’ll got check it out ASAP. π
I saw that in Locus and was super excited for you! The “best stories” lists were all remarkably cool.
Thanks, Susan!
Thanks, Brit! It would never have occurred to me to look at such lists. Or that they even existed, for that matter.
I’m delighted to see your Tor.com story getting such high praise and positive feedback π
“Still Life” was absolutely beautiful. Congrats Ian!
Thank you very much, Adam! I’m delighted that you enjoyed it.
